Now, I know that many Americans don't give a rats ass about how the rest of the world sees them. But nonetheless, they're being watched closely this election cycle. The rest of the world is powerless to intervene in what it sees as the biggest decision America has ever taken. And they're impotent at the fact that the decision could be made by the people they see chanting racist slogans and eating moose burgers.
In the current worldwide economic climate, America can't afford to be on its own. Even GWB recognised that when he begged the world to help out. So maybe there's some merit in having a look at what the rest of the world thinks about the Presidential elections and their relationship with the USA.
The World Endorses ObamaA survey was conducted by 8 of the world's leading newspapers to find out who the rest of the world would like America to choose. The papers, including France's Le Monde, Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun, Canada's La Presse, Britain's The Guardian and Mexico's Reforma found overwhelming support for Barack Obama.
According to the UK based Guardian newspaper : People around the world are pinning their hopes on Barack Obama in next month's presidential election, according to an international survey published today. It shows that America can no longer count on the friendship even of its closest neighbours and allies after eight years of the Bush presidency. Only a minority in the countries surveyed describe relations with the US as friendly.
World view of Obama/McCain No doubt, this will just be passed off by some as "left wing pinko-commie propoganda" by the "God-damned cheese eating surrender monkeys" and their "terrorist friends". To do this, though, would be an error. The US has exerted enormous influence over the rest of the world over the last 60 years and much of this has been positive - transport, internet, software, music, film, culture, telecommunications, space exploration, science, medicine... I could go on and on. We owe the USA so much. Americans have many friends in many countries. This is why we care so much. Please, America, listen to your friends. UPDATE: 24th OctGallup has published a world-wide map showing the voting preferences of 70 countries , representing half of the population of the world. The map below speaks for itself.
