Wolf-murdering psychopath Sarah Palin was greeted with a loud chorus of boos at tonights game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers.

Some commentators have suggested that Palin had no chance of a warm reception after she was spotted last month jogging through Philly wearing a New York Rangers sweatshirt. Other's have said that Philly fans will even boo Santa, and he's not a Republic VP candidate with a penchant for abusing his position of authority (at least we don't think he is). So Palin was never going to be greeted favourably, even if she came out naked and did the splits.
The game also featured Cathy O'Connell, the "Ultimate Hockey Mom" who, in some cheap stunt concocted by Flyer's rabidly right wing owner Ed Snider, joined Palin at the puck-drop. She shook hands with Palin like she was greeting Death himself.
It just so happens that the only TV station to cover the event was Comcast, who are owned by Comcast Spectator, who own the Flyers. Maybe that explains the really loud music and distinct lack of shots of the fans. That said, you can see some fans giving thumbs down half way through.
Gabrielle Gurley, writer for the Guardian and Philly resident predicted a hostile reception:
"Palin's Philadelphia problem is mixing sports and politics in a town that takes its sports very seriously - especially at a time when people are seeking refuge from the no-end-in-sight economic meltdown and the increasingly ugly presidential campaign. Philly sports fans have a well-deserved reputation as some of the most obnoxious fans in the country. The "Philadelphia cheer", is an ear-splitting, soul-cleansing "boo". Go at less than full throttle, and a player will get booed. Injured players? They get booed, too. How about Santa Claus? You guessed it, he's gotten booed. How about controversial vice-presidential candidates? You get my drift. Perhaps the McCain campaign didn't get that memo."
Palin must have known in advance about the reception she was going to get. So, what do you do if you're a VP candidate about to walk into an arena of boos and chants? You take your kids! The NHL said it did not view the Flyers' invitation to be politically motivated.
"Governor Palin is a supporter of the sport, which she has proclaimed publicly," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said. "As a public figure who has a very public connection with hockey, her recent associations with the Flyers and other NHL franchises is not surprising and, in our view, not inappropriate." Whatever.
